LANDON IS TWO!

This time two years ago I met my best buddy. And every day that I’ve spent with him since (731 to be exact) has been better than the day before.

I always pictured myself with daughters. I’m good at the girly stuff. Dolls, dress up, hair. I certainly never ever pictured rubber boots stomping through the mud, dinosaur pajamas, and sharing my bed with toy cows and monster trucks. But I certainly wouldn’t have it any other way.

I’m sorry to those who are, but I’m just not an animal person. The last thing I ever expected my offspring to be obsessed with was farm animals. Yet, here I am with a two year old cowboy. For the last year, sheep and horses have been our best friends, Home on the Range has been our favorite movie, and Old MacDonald Had a Farm has been our anthem. I honestly thought he would have outgrown this by now, but no. The farm stage is still going strong.

So imagine this little boy's excitement when we took him to the 4H tents at the county fair. Actually, you don’t have to imagine. Here’s an iPhone shot of his reaction:

He was so adorable and I regretted not bringing my camera. So I went home, scrubbed the stains out of his shirt, went back to the fairgrounds the next morning and did his second birthday photo shoot. I'm so glad I did. These images are Landon at his Landon-est. His smiles are real, pure joy. I never thought I could love cows and tractors the way I do now, but this little man has a way of changing me.

Happy Birthday, my wild boy. You're more than everything I ever hoped for. I love you!

(worth noting that the button-up shirt and overalls were a gift from my great-grandmother (Landon's great-great grandmother) to my uncle Ben about 4 decades ago)
