ASHLEY & MATT | A DOWN-HOME SPRINGTIME WEDDING

I’ve been able to work as a photographer in some crazy places. I’ve done a senior session for a stranger in Alaska. Shot my best friend’s wedding in Utah. I’ve been to Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, and of course, all over our great state of Indiana. All adventures I will forever cherish, but I cannot lie: it was kind of nice to be able to get into the old blue truck and drive about 30 seconds down the road to the Johnson Ranch to shoot this beautiful wedding for my sweet neighbors.

Let me just explain the type of people they are: one time we had a friend visiting from London and we took her on a golf cart ride. Matt and Ashley were outside, so we stopped to chat with them. Their kiddos showed our guest the snake they had just found and she got a kick out of that. Another time, we had a friend over from Lexington, Kentucky who had a flat tire. Josh took his car over to Matt’s to patch it. The self-proclaimed “city-slicker” was very grateful for the help. When they set up a bounce house or have a party, they invite our kids over to play. They are give-you-the-shirt-off-their-back kind of people and I know either of them would do anything in their power to help us if we ever needed it.

Knowing all of this made this wedding day that much sweeter to capture. Of course, Ashley made me feel right at home from the moment I got there. This woman has a can-do attitude if I ever saw one. In full glam and perfect hair, she was icing cupcakes with her baby on her hip the morning of her wedding. She does not rest. Her and Matt both were working right up until the last minute, as the rain we’ve had this past week set back a few of their plans.

I’m no stranger to that! Josh and I had our reception set up outside, but it rained our entire wedding day. The outdoor celebration I always pictured didn’t happen, but my marriage has been everything I could’ve ever asked for and more. I know the Johnsons originally wanted their tent wedding set up in the grass on their beautiful property, but honestly, I think everything was perfect. The rain held off all day and God gave us a beautifully overcast sky (my favorite). Even the leftover rain puddles made for some awesome entertainment for the kiddos. At the end of the day, none of the details really matter. What matters is being able to celebrate being married to the one you love with all of the people who love you. And that’s exactly what we did!

There were more sweet moments happening around me than was even possible to capture. I’m adoring how Ashley’s pastel palette meshed with her rustic details and created such wonderful images. I’m very happy for the both of you and I’m so excited to show off just a few highlights from the day!
