JAMES & MADALYN | A MAGICAL BACKYARD SUMMER WEDDING

One thing I love about photography as an art is how it evolves with you. Lately, I've discovered that instead of trying to fit each image into a certain style, it's a lot more fun to edit images to how they felt in the moment. I want to shoot and edit true to life, true to color, and true to emotion. My job is to capture the magic of the moment without distorting the memory that's already there. Especially for weddings, I want to be true to the day.


This day was overcast. This day was misty. This day was warm. This day was muddy. This day was relaxed. This day was beautiful. This day was blessed. This day was magic all by itself- no Photoshop required.


When I look back at these images, I see all of the love that was poured into this young couple. Every detail, every decision, every last-minute adjustment was all done out of adoration for the new Mr. and Mrs. VanDrunen. As much as there was an abundance of devotion surrounding the couple, I don't think there was any greater display of pure love than the one I saw between James and Madalyn themselves.


If I could take them with me to every session, I would. Not only are they gorgeous, they are so easily candid in every image. As someone who may or may not have photographed a few hundred couples in her time, I know from experience that this only comes from true emotion. James and Madalyn had pure joy in their hearts and it radiated onto their faces. The most amazing part to me is how they took all of that love and joy and turned it into praise. There was no shortage of tears, tender moments, open-mouthed laughter, and audible thanks to God. If you left there feeling anything less than uplifted, I'm really not sure how.


Besides all of that, their wedding day was like a work of art in real life. I'm swooning.


Although it wasn't easy, somehow, some way, I was able to narrow down their day into just a few snaps (138 to be exact). This doesn't even begin to scratch the surface of the splendor that was June 27, 2026, and I'm so excited to continue to go through them, but I hope when you all look through these sneak peeks, you'll be able to see exactly what I mean.


What an honor! Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. VanDrunen!
