There have only been a few times in my life so far that I’ve truly felt old. The first was several years ago when my little cousin, Josiah, asked what year I was born. When I told him, he said, “Wha-? You were born before the 2000s?!”
Another was last night at the beautiful Goodin property. When I realized that my freshmens’ freshmen are graduating. Among them is none other than Mr. Jon Henderson (Smoke for short). As much as I still see him and his classmates as little boys, the truth of the matter is: he’s grown into a young man. A hilarious, joyful, extremely well-mannered young man.
In fact, Jon has already cultivated something that most people don’t have until years into adulthood. And that is comfort. Comfort in his own skin. The ability to laugh and laugh at himself. The freedom to be exactly who he is and to be happy with it! He’s just along for the ride and loving every minute of it. If only all of us born-before-2000ers could say the same.
Such a laidback attitude is a dream for a photographer. He was up for anything and happy with everything! I couldn’t have asked for better! Not to mention he has the best on-command laugh I’ve ever seen.
Jon, it was truly a blast and I’m so excited for the next chapter in your life! It’ll be here before you know it, so be sure to soak up every minute of the next few months at AHS. I have a hunch that whatever you end up doing, you’re going to be great at it!
