When I was in college, I had a rotation at a hospital during May and I learned that Derby was actually a huge deal to other people. Everyone in the pharmacy department was shocked when I told them I don’t really celebrate Derby. They all had parties to go to and hats to buy and it wasn’t unusual to take off work for all of the festivities. I wondered why I never really noticed how big of a deal Derby can be…
I guess it’s because I always have plans that day! Yes, while the rest of the world was watching the race on Saturday, I was click-click-clicking through the boatload of images I had gotten that day. The way I see it (through my camera), this isn’t Derby weekend. This is prom weekend.
So, sit back and relax as we breeze through this year’s looks. Because, boy, do I have a super fun scroll for you.
Kassidy
Starting off strong right out of the gate: Miss Kassidy always always slays (to the best of my Gen Z slag knowledge). I was so excited to see what she came up with this year and she did not disappoint. I always drool over her signature gold accessories. Fierce as she may look, I've really enjoyed getting to know her sweet personality over the years. I'm so sad that I won't get a Kassidy prom look next year, but at least she left me with one set of unforgettable images.
Kaylee
Of course, you can't talk about Kassidy without mentioning her partner-in-crime. For every intense smize I get out of Kassidy, I get one sweet giggle from Kaylee. Kaylee is so lighthearted and her look last year was like her personality in a dress. I couldn't wait to see what she'd pull up in this year and that deep emerald was worth the wait. I loved the way she lightened the look with space buns- very Kaylee. And after all this time, I think I've finally got her trained on the fierce face as well. Yes, this girl has the cutest giggle ever, but she can sure rock any pose.
Sadie & Isaiah
Ok, here is stop number one on my journey of super sentimental posts. The beauties you're about to see looked like this when I was their age:

and now they think they're big enough to do things like drive and go to prom. It ain't right, I tell ya. Starting with Sadie and her date, Isaiah. I just wanna say that you've never seen a pair do the serious face like these two can. I remember going to center day and field trips with Sadie when she was tiny and I always thought Isaiah was the cutest, sweetest little tot. It's really hard to see them as anything else but kindergarteners, but here they are: looking so grown up that I can't really deny it anymore.
Luci & Cason
That curly-headed blonde you saw a few photos back is, well... still a curly-headed blonde. Just a little bit older. And looking absolutely gorgeous if I do say so myself. Lu and Cason rocked the all-black ensemble and every last detail was perfect, right down to the bow earrings. It was so fun getting to gush over my sisters, and I appreciated these young men being gentlemen by their sides. These kids make me proud, especially when the guys lined up and posed themselves for a photo.
Monse & Baetty
My bonus sister! I think we can all agree on how incredibly stunning Monse is in that butterfly dress. I adored the one-shoulder cape. Baetty, however, didn't come to play. I've never been that fashionably daring in my life, but aside from his outfit, Baetty looked so much older to me this year compared to last. Maybe it's the haircut? Either way, these two are incredibly fun to photograph.
Maddie & Brayden
Speaking of fun! This power couple was a blast to shoot. Maddie oozes sweetness and spunk, and it turns out: Brayden matches that energy perfectly. I loved the way they teased each other. Maddie looked as gorgeous as ever in her deep blue gown and Brayden was just happy to admire her.
Emma
Oh, sweet, sweet Emma. The Smith kids have been a part of my line-up since the very beginning. I really can't believe this will be the seventh and final year that one of them is all dressed up in front of my camera. What a fantastic way to finish this saga, though! When Emma walked in, I thought Ooo! She went with green! Then a few seconds later, I was like No, wait! Blue! Then when I got her in the studio, I thought Wait. Purple?!
This dress was a show all in itself. And just like Emma, it is stunning in every light. Â I cannot believe that the next time I take her picture, it will be in a cap and gown!
Teagan
We saw Teagan's debut last year for the 8th Grade Dance. I dare say, she's going to be one to watch! I loved seeing what she put together for her first prom. The pops of pink against that shiny black dress were perfect and so fun! Just like Teagan. She's always so bubbly and beautiful and those two things sure do make for a fun session.
Abby
I won't say my first thought when I saw Abby's dress so as not to embarrass her Cards-loving parents...
(*cough cough* Go UK!)
BUT no matter the color (or team) Abby is simply stunning. Seriously, this girl could wear anything and my jaw would still drop. Her beauty, inside and out, is unmatched and to say that we share even a little bit of blood makes me feel so proud.
Ella & Cason
Yay! Ella is back to grace my lens! This girl is so easy to photograph. Her natural beauty shines through every single time. This time, she brought Cason to the party. These sessions can be a bit fast-paced, and sometimes I rely on the fact that some of these kids are repeat customers. Cason jumped in like a professional! I just loved their look. This pair was so stunning and classy.
Izzy & Kaden
Everyone brought the drama this year. Deep greens, blues, and blacks were stealing the show. BUT I'm not gonna lie, at this point in the day, I was missing some pink! It was so refreshing to see Izzy and Kaden's fairytale look. I loved the navy paired with Izzy's shimmery gown. These two brought the lighthearted energy with their prom getup, but also with their personalities. Their session was playful and sweet and I loved every detail right down to the teeny, tiny stars on Izzy's nails.
Calli
Calli is the main character. I adore this chick. Only someone with Calli's energy could pull off four consecutive groundbreaking prom looks. Aside from her outfit, I was most excited to see what kind of glasses Calli would sport this year. Because when you're as cool and interesting as Calli, you have to have a cool and interesting signature accessory.
I'm trying to process the fact that I won't get another Calli prom look next year, but that's ok! The last four years of sessions have been better with Calli in them!
Khloe & Carter
I'm pretty sure Khloe's goal each year is to find a dress that sparkles as much as her sweet smile. Although she always has the most shimmering gown, nothing can outshine her contagious sweetness. I know it, Carter knows it. Bottom line: this girl is stunning and so are her prom ensembles.
While Khloe brought the sparkle, Carter brought the fun! I can't get over how sweet this couple was. From the tops of their heads (which were very tall, by the way) right down to their bejeweled shoes, it was a pleasure to have them in the studio.
Lillie & Braxton
Lillie's dress was a'speakin my language. That incredible shade of green, the floral print, the pockets! Are you kidding me?! Lillie's long, dark locks went perfectly with her gown and her sweet smile went perfectly with her escort. Braxton was quite the gentleman throughout the session and even earned himself a couple of shots with the hat. What a great way to wrap up this marathon of sessions!
